What's next for streaming? How streaming revenue can be more visible and accessible for labels and artists

n 2019, On Demand music services such as Apple Music, Spotify and Pandora are expected to top $8 billion in revenue in the U.S. alone. The music industry has shifted to On Demand consumption, but the revenue and payments process hasn't changed. It can still take up to 6 months for revenue payments to flow through the music supply chain after a stream, while distributors, labels and artists have no visibility into the daily price of their streams. Daniel Dewar from Paperchain will present on technologies that are aiming to solve the streaming revenue & payments challenge, and what's being done today to bring visibility and transparency into streaming revenue data.

Licensing Samples: Everything You Need to Know

Ever wonder why Chance the Rapper’s “Acid Rap” mixtape wasn’t available on streaming services until June 2019? It’s simple: the samples weren’t properly licensed. It’s a problem that pops up all the time in hip-hop, as many talented young producers aren’t aware of the legal responsibilities that come with sampling music, and many artists believe they aren’t infringing on copyright so long as they don’t charge money for a track or album. The reality is that any release featuring samples must be cleared, from demo CDs passed out from artists’ cars, to free streams on Soundcloud, to official albums. In this Masterclass session, a nearly-30-year veteran of the sample licensing business will explain the process to attendees, provide guidelines for how much they can expect to pay, give tips on how to bring that price down, and answer any questions.

Tracklib - A Game Changer For Sample Based Producers

Sampling has been a natural part of music making since the beginning of hip-hop. But because sample clearance is so impossibly complicated, expensive, and time consuming, it not really an option for most producers and artists. Tracklib is a new digital service that solves this. Making it possible to clear samples instantly for as little as $50. Tracklib samples has been used in hits this year by artists like J. Cole, DJ Khaled, and BROCKHAMPTON, but it’s mainly a service for everyone that never had the possibility to clear samples before. Tracklib is also announcing a brand new feature for producers here at A3C.
