Ric Ross, Capitol Records, National Director Urban AC
Atlanta, GA native Ric Ross is a thirty + years veteran of the music industry, having first tested the waters as a student at the Music Business Institute in 1987. His professional career began at Warner Music Group where he serviced records to colleges and radio stations.
In 1991, Ross was named southeast Regional Promotion Manager for Reprise Records and in 1994 he became Regional Promotion Manager for Elektra Records. Ross would go on to work in management positions at Island Records, Capitol Records and Atlantic Records. In 2004, he returned to Capitol as National Field Director for the Southeast region. He is now the National Director for the Urban AC format.
As an expert in promotion and strategic marketing, Ross has worked with a wide range of well-known recording artists, among them Anita Baker, Keith Sweat, T.I., Snoop Dogg, Isley Bros. Al Green, Gerald Levert, Yolanda Adams, Tyrese, Trey Songz, Eric Benet, Twista, Mary J. Blige, Sam Smith, Kem, Ne-Yo, Sean" P. Diddy" Combs, MIGOS and a list of others.
In addition to his professional commitments, Ross is also the founder of the non-profit Music Education Group (MEG). The mission of MEG is to teach students life-skills development through music, film and digital media. The organization was formed to bring music, film and digital media based education to underserved youth and provide every child in Metro Atlanta with an equal opportunity for music education. Ross attributes his success in the music industry to “hard work, dedication and a passion for music.” His goal is to use the knowledge he has gained in the music business and apply it in other areas.
