Shawn Gee is the President of Live Nation Urban, and a Principal and Partner in Live Nation’s Maverick management company. Gee began his career in music almost 20 years ago as the co-manager for acclaimed music artists The Roots and Jill Scott, both natives of his hometown of Philadelphia. Two decades later Gee still manages all aspects of the careers of these two artists. Gee’s expertise in the business and strategy of the live touring and music festival models have placed him as one of the most respected live music executives in the industry. As President of the newly minted Live Nation Urban venture, Gee and his team are responsible for developing unique live global platforms and urban content opportunities while also helping emerging artists build their live profiles, with a focus specifically in the areas of Hip Hop, R&B & Gospel. He is creator and/or partner in several festivals such as The Roots Picnic, Broccoli City Festival, R&B Summer Block Party and Kirk Franklin’s Exodus Festival. Gee has also partnered with Spotify to create Rap Caviar Live, with BET to produce their annual BET Experience Festival and with the Estate of Prince to produce a symphonic celebration to the music of the legend. One of Gee’s goal with Live Nation Urban is for the company to serve as a platform for young African American future executives to be introduced to the live entertainment industry.
